Established in 1955 by Ron Brown and Bill McKnight the founders instilled in McKnight & Brown the focus on quality and tailored personal service that you enjoy today. These core values have remained a constant over our 63 years in business, but a willingness to embrace and adapt to a changing world has helped McKnight & Brown stand the test of time.
The shop opened at 43 Dee Street in 1955. In 1988 the business moved to 53 Esk Street, and 10 years later to our current residence at 30 Esk Street. We believe we are the longest established independent, locally owned menswear retail store in the province. With Bernie Brown at the helm and a carefully curated team the store is well equipped to adapt to a changing retail environment where retailers need to reinvent themselves daily to stay relevant. We have to learn from the past, but also look to the future.
Recent changes to the team have expanded our range of experience to enable this ethos. Senior consultant Noel Greig has given 42 years’ service to the company and his valued clients. Roger Larsen, who joined the team early this year, brings with him a breadth of knowledge and experience in the retail sector, and new label R.M. Williams. Georgie Keyse, the newest member to join the team, adds a new younger perspective and experience in digital marketing to round out the team’s strengths.
Our focus on community involvement has contributed to our continued success. We strive to meet local needs and support other local businesses. We are proudly parochial and endeavor to support our local community as best we can. The decision to take on an intern from the SIT Bachelor of Fashion programme reflects these values and a commitment to the future of local fashion.
It’s often said, “fashions fade – style is eternal”, and McKnight & Brown certainly represent long-lasting style.
